Natural Hydrogen (with Dr. Geoffrey Ellis)
In the fight to end climate change, hydrogen is an important clean, renewable replacement for fossil fuels. However, splitting hydrogen from other elements is costly and dirty.
Natural hydrogen – hydrogen not bonded with other elements – has been found in large quantities around the world. It may revolutionize the energy transition, since no splitting is required.
In this talk, we welcome Dr. Geoffrey Ellis, project chief of the Potential for Geologic Hydrogen Gas Resources project within the Energy Resources Program (ERP) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
He discusses what we know about the potential for natural hydrogen, how to apply existing resource exploration strategies, and what new knowledge and technologies are needed to improve our understanding of this overlooked resource and its potential to help stop climate change.
