Climate Action Hero Awards

I’m honored and grateful to share that I’ve been nominated for the 2026 Climate Action Hero Awards.

My journey in climate advocacy began in 2013 after hearing an interview with a climate scientist describe the profound challenges our world faces under a business-as-usual path. Like many, I was deeply concerned, but what stayed with me the most was what those impacts would mean for the next generation, including my then ten year old son. I came away with a clear belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to live a safe, healthy, and dignified life, and we each have a role to play in making that possible.

That conviction led me to co-found 350 Chicago with Melissa Brice. Together, we set out to build a community committed to addressing the climate crisis and advancing equitable, actionable solutions.

Since then, 350 Chicago has worked to drive meaningful change at both the city and state levels. In 2022, we successfully led a multi-year effort to help secure Chicago’s divestment of $70 million from fossil fuel assets. This achievement was made possible through sustained public engagement, grassroots organizing, and collaboration with city leaders.

Our work has also extended statewide through our involvement with the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition, where we’ve supported advocacy efforts to accelerate decarbonization and helped educate the public on key legislation such as the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. Today, we are part of the Climate Safe Pensions Illinois Coalition, working alongside more than 40 partner organizations to advance fossil fuel divestment across Illinois’ pension systems.

In addition, 350 Chicago continues to advocate for utility affordability and transparency, and we are proud to contribute to national and local coalitions working to speed the transition away from fossil fuels.

None of this work would be possible without the dedication and leadership of our volunteers. They are at the heart of everything we do, bringing passion, expertise, and persistence to this movement. I’m deeply grateful for the time and energy they’ve contributed over the years.

Since our founding, I’ve had the privilege of serving as an organizer, board president, and executive director, helping to guide and grow this work alongside an incredible community.

I’m truly honored to be recognized alongside so many individuals working toward a healthier, more sustainable future. I hope you’ll join us on April 16th, 5:00pm at the Climate Action Museum’s Hero Awards to celebrate the people and partnerships driving climate progress in our community.
