Climate misinformation causes damage in a number of ways – not just confusing people about the reality of climate change but even reducing trust in science and civic engagement, which compromises our ability to deal with the existential threat of climate change.
In this presentation, Dr. John Cook will delve into the research on countering misinformation using critical thinking and how it can be practically implemented in fact-checking as well as other applications such as misinformation games.
Dr. John Cook, who holds a PhD in Cognitive Science, is a Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Centre for Behaviour Change at the University of Melbourne and is a research assistant professor at the Center for Climate Change Communication at George Mason University. He founded Skeptical Science and published a landmark paper that proved a 97 percent of scientific consensus on human-caused global warming.
