Climate Safe Pensions Illinois Coalition Town Hall

On July 22nd, the Climate Safe Pensions Illinois Coalition hosted a town hall at the Chicago Teachers Union Hall to discuss the Illinois Fossil Fuel Divestment Act. The event brought together 37 attendees to learn about the growing financial and climate risks of continued fossil fuel investments in Illinois’ five publicly funded pension funds.

Participants heard a compelling presentation on how divesting from fossil fuel assets can help protect the retirement security of pensioners while reducing financial risks for taxpayers as the economy transitions to clean energy.

The evening concluded with a lively and engaging Q&A session, giving attendees the opportunity to dive deeper into the legislation, discuss its potential impacts, and explore how they can support the campaign moving forward.
